The DANGERS Of Hair Extensions Performed By Untrained Stylists

We all have seen some horrific hair extensions. Some people cannot afford the high quality systems, which is understandable in today's economy. Celebrities, on the other hand are in the spotlight, day in and day out, therefore it is a must to look presentable at all times. Here are a few pictures to show the dangers of some systems, the "worst" celebrity hair extensions, and celebrities caught in the act!!

Weave
A weave is applied by taking several sections of your own hair that are tightly braided close to the scalp. A weft of hair is then sewn onto the braid with a needle and cotton. If braids are made too tightly they can hurt and put strain on your scalp. Weaves are best for thicker hair because the braids take up a lot of your natural hair. Wefts can be obvious in very fine hair as there is not enough hair left to hide the weft. Weaves are generally made of wefts of artificial hair or low quality human hair. The Kardashians are "weave wearers," as well as Naomi Campbell.

I know this is very very scary. In Naomi's case, there isn't any hair growth, it appears to be bald, which is a sign there may never be hair growth in this section. With my personal experience and expertise, I have seen something very similar to this exact case, which was also caused by a weave.

Kim Kardashian's hair is looking thinner these days without her weave.

Kourtney Kardashian getting her weave done at a salon. In this picture, you can see how tight the braids are, causing hair loss damage.

In the next two pictures, you'll be able to see Kourtney Kardashian's natural short hair underneath.
This shows the installation was not done by a professional.

Glue hair extensions also known as Great Lengths or the "keratin bond," are a common type of extension method. This specific method prides itself on using only a "safe" keratin bond to adhere the extension to your hair. Keratin is a protein found WITHIN the hair shaft. Once removed and used to create a "bond," it is simply an ingredient in glue. It provides no protection against hair damage. Keep in mind, as well, the method of attachment will vary with the stylist and depend largely on how he or she was taught to perform the service. With my years of experience, I have also seen clients concur hair loss damage from this type of hair extension technique.

Nicole Richie has been a hair extension wearer for years. In the first photo, her hair extensions are clearly visible and aren't color matched to her natural hair.

In this photo below, you can see the bonded extensions, which form Nicole's side bang.
Here is the result of placing glue bonded extensions on such a sensitive area. She has bald patch/hair loss on her right side.

Britney Spears has been a hair extension disaster since forever. The first two pictures are several years old, and the last two are recent 2011. The last two pictures, she is wearing a weft or taped in method. Not too sure, but it still looks awful! I guess she hasn't done any research on expert stylists recently.

Lace front wigs
A lace front wig is a special type of hairpiece or wig designed with a sheer lace base, thus making the hairline invisible. Lace front wigs are made with real human hair, which are hand tied. An expert eye can always tell if someone is wearing something. Here are a few ways to spot a front lace wig. Always check around the hairline, if you see a white lace detail, rest assure the person is wearing a lace front wig.

This client is wearing the same technique I perform. What is wrong with this picture?? The hair stylist, who installed this hair missed two extensions that are clearly almost four inches grown out. My opinion, this is laziness. The color of the coils are about two shades off, and extremely big for such thin hair. This client should have been placed in a smaller darker coil. Please beware of this!!

Below is Hair Goddess Of NY's hair extension system. As you can see there is superior placement, unique form, and a dark coil to match the client's root hair. This client has been with me for several years, and comes back for maintenance every 8-9 weeks faithfully to ensure no damage to her natural hair. I took this picture to show there is not one piece of breakage, when extensions are applied the RIGHT way. Please make sure to do tons of research when searching for a stylist. I am the ONLY supplier of Russian and Polish imported hair. You will not find any other person than myself, who is a true supplier. All others simply say, "I have the best hair." Lots of stylists are selling synthetic hair as "Russian." The hair is silicone based, so after several washes the coating washes off leaving you with a tangled mess.
